Summary:

Gathers and identifies local data science projects/initiatives/requests in collaboration with local/global MS teams, and other local functions. This position is part of the Digital and Data Sciences (DDS) team within the Manufacturing Sciences (MS) organization at the Los Angeles Facility. In addition to owning, and managing local MS data science initiatives, the other core responsibility of the DDS team is to ensure the manufacturing process for LA products and intermediates remains in a state of control. Statistical and analytical expertise is required for developing Continued Process Verification (CPV) plans and assisting in troubleshooting adverse process trends by proactive data analyses. He/She will work closely with the Subject Matter Experts and IT team to develop systems for the trending and analysis of process data.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The individual in this position should expect significant day-to-day variability in tasks and challenges. Primary duties include but is not limited to the following:

  • Drives the execution for local implementation of MS data science roadmap initiatives
  • Owns, manages and drives local data science initiatives according to prioritization. Manages the respective functional and cross-functional interdependencies accordingly
  • Manages and drives improvements on local process monitoring and process improvement
  • Supports and participates in global/functional/local GMS data science community
  • Drives necessary local trainings for knowledge transfer of big data analytics, coding/programming, etc.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining CPV plans, including reports
  • Perform data analyses using applicable analytical systems
  • Assist in the investigation of adverse trends and implementing proactive measures to reduce manufacturing risks and variation
  • Expected to learn manufacturing or relevant process knowledge required to execute data analytics projects and CPV

Qualifications:

  • Strong expertise and experience in Digital/Big Data Analytics/ Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning algorithms, respective programming knowledge
  • Respective programming knowledge in Python/R/C is required. Further programming experience is advantageous
  • Proficiency in database languages (SQL), understanding of data models and databases
  • Capabilities to translate business needs into data analytics concepts and vice versa
  • Hands-on, able to implement and execute data science initiatives, analysis, machine learning
  • High-level project management skills
  • Compositional data analysis and analyzing time series data
  • Distributed computing, stochastic modeling, sampling methods, and randomized algorithms
  • Explainable Artificial Intelligence methods
  • Experienced in using statistical process control, control chart and process capability techniques
  • Strong ability to analyze and interpret scientific and statistical data
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, SharePoint, Minitab, Discoverant, OSI Pi, SQL)
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Strong presentation skills. Understand and articulate how own role ties within function or discipline
  • High level of customer orientation and organizational skills
  • Capable of analyzing and solving complex problems through innovative thought and experience, self-motivated and takes personal responsibility for getting the job done
  • Able to work independently and within a team, and follow specific instructions to accomplish the tasks
  • Experienced understanding of GxP and related regulations
  • Understanding of biochemistry or protein separation, plasma protein knowledge preferred

Education and/or experience:

  • Bachelors' Degree in a highly quantitative field, e.g. in Engineering, Mathematics, IT, Economics or Physics with focus on either Control Theory/ Statistics/ Mechatronics, Information/ Operation, Management/ Strategy/ Economics, Technology, and Innovation Management
  • 3+ years work experience in data analysis related position or equivalent academic experience/course record
  • Hands-on experience in applying and executing Artificial Intelligence/Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Big Data and Digital with respective programming knowledge
  • Contribution to github repositories and stack overflow and participation in competitions, e.g. on kaggle, data challenges, hackathons are advantageous
  • Demonstrated contribution or interest to ethics of Artificial Intelligence
  • Fluent in English

Physical Demands:

  • In general, the position requires mostly sedentary work and some walking around observing conditions in the facility

Working Environment:

  • Inside working conditions
  • Must be able to work in controlled environments requiring special gowning. Will be required to follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet, and body
  • No make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish or artificial fingernails may be worn in the manufacturing environment
  • Some Clean Room and cool/hot storage conditions
