OBJECTIVES:

As one of the leaders of the Global Gene Therapy (GGT) Research Team, the Head of Vectorology will be responsible and accountable for leading a team of vectorologist that contributes to discovery research gene therapy (GT) projects in the research pipeline. The incumbent will lead the team to continue to establish collaborations across multiple line functions to progress GT projects in a highly matrixed manner.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provide leadership to a team of Vectorology leads and molecular biology specialists to design vectors appropriate for gene therapy therapeutic development and technology advancement projects. Responsible and accountable for appropriate data interpretations of the results of studies conducted by self and team members.
  • Represent the Vectorology team as the GGT LT member. Ensure cross team collaboration within GGT to obtain required resources to enable efficient progression of GT projects.
  • Enable the Vectorology team members to cross collaborate within the GGT team, multiple Discovery Disease Units (DDUs), global research platforms and other departments.
  • Constantly oversees project progression, experimental prioritization and communicate effectively to GGT LT in a timely manner.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects under a demanding timeline while providing guidance to a team of scientists.
  • Advice project teams on experimental planning to ensure good quality readout can be obtained to drive go/no-go decisions.
  • Stay on top of the literature and industrial technical advancement to improve vectorology capabilities by identifying novel approaches and propose experimental plan to test the hypothesis.
  • Provide scientific and strategic input to therapeutic and technology development projects
  • Cultivate and foster a culture of cohesion, team work, accessibility, transparency and efficiency.
  • Attend relevant scientific conferences and stay on top of literature publication to stay current in relevant research.
  • Accountable for the development of organizational culture and capabilities. Ability to balance multiple projects under a demanding timeline while providing guidance to a team of scientists.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • PhD degree in a scientific discipline with 12+ years of experience with 7 years of industry experience required. Prior managerial experience required.
  • Previous experience successfully leading gene and/or cell therapy drug development team/matrix teams through internal governance transitions. Ability to have timeline management and budget planning.
  • 7 years of managerial experience required with managerial experience
  • Direct experience in the design and testing of research viral vectors for therapeutics.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and written skills for presentations, report writing and day-to-day project team communications.
  • Data-driven, critical thinking, analytical and ability to interpret results with statistical approaches.
  • Proactive ability to look for internal and/or external resources to enable progression of programs
  • Proficient in various computer software such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Graphpad Prism, Vector NTI (or equivalent DNA sequencing software) and Microsoft Project (or Think Cell).
