As a Field Medical Excellence Lead working on the Global Medical Affairs team, you will be empowered lead and collaborate in the development of digital tools and innovative technology designed to enhance external and internal field medical engagement to maximize stakeholder value, and a typical day will include:


  • Partner with Takeda business units to:
    • Drive strategic and operational alignment of Field Medical programs
    • Maintain standards and consistency for the role of Field Medical
    • Ensure successful development and execution of training designed to build functional skills and behaviours to meet the evolving business needs
    • Input into the global Field Medical Excellence plan
  • Proactively identify the future needs of the business through understanding industry trends related to Field Medical and input into a strategic roadmap designed to help Takeda lead the industry and achieve sustainable excellence across Field Medical
  • Lead and collaborate in the development of digital tools and innovative technology designed to enhance external and internal field medical engagement to maximize stakeholder value
  • Partner with Regional Medical Excellence, Global External Research, Global Development Operations, Medical Functions leaders and other cross-functional stakeholders to identify internal opportunities to leverage the externally facing capabilities of Field Medical


  • Collaborate with Regional Medical Excellence to shape the strategic and operational alignment of Field Medical functions by continuous refinement of Field Medical capabilities that draw from current practices and internal expectations on what constitutes high performance; provide ongoing awareness of current trends within the industry and compliance guidance to ensure appropriate activity and innovation
  • Provide guidance and expertise to region/area strategy and aligned processes in support of Field Medical activities (e.g. insight gathering & communication, collaboration with Global Development Operations, GMA Research, KOL engagement capability) in collaboration with internal stakeholders (e.g. Regional Medical Heads, Regional Medical Excellence Heads, Global Medical Heads, PVPS, Legal, OEC, IT, Clinical Development, etc.)
  • Lead the development and implementation of a Field Medical KOL management & engagement model and related tools that will provide a strategically aligned and consistent approach, to be used globally across Takeda business units to ensure optimal engagement
  • Support regional/area team development of processes for synthesising regional/area medical insights obtained during scientific exchange with external customers and dissemination of medical insights to internal, global cross functional teams
  • Lead discussions and provide input and consultation on Field Medical related systems and processes (e.g. Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools, Insight & Opinion platforms, KOL management databases, etc.) across Field Medical programs
  • Represent Field Medical Excellence within global medical affairs teams i.e. Global Training, Takeda Medical Campus, Medical Strategy Team, Business Solutions & Analytics, etc. and provides insight and leadership on field medical capability, scientific insight processes, functional strategic objectives, operational priorities, etc.
  • Partner with Global Training lead the design and execution of training and development initiatives that can be applied to Field Medical and Field Medical Managers across regions and LOCs
  • Collaborate with R&D business unit internal partners to continuously identify areas for projects and process of mutual benefit to demonstrate value of Takeda Field Medical
  • Horizon scan for industry trends, technology and external excellence to share best practices for continued advancement of the Takeda Field Medical function


  • Doctoral degree in health or life sciences related field such as a PharmD, MD or Ph.D. or geographical equivalents
  • Eight years of healthcare or related experience (clinical practice, research, academic or market access) which should include 3 years of experience in managing a Field Medical organization within Medical Affairs in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Three years of direct/matrix managerial experience of individuals with an advanced scientific degree in a field-based group in the pharmaceutical industry and experience in performance management and KPIs
  • Proven track record of strong strategic leadership, teamwork, innovation, project management and demonstrated ability to manage, lead and mentor individuals
  • Demonstrated understanding of global ethics & compliance, legal and regulatory guidelines of the pharmaceutical industry especially in relation to medical services and Field Medical initiatives
  • Ability to understand and align the needs from global, regional and national perspectives
  • Proven ability to influence and have strong collaboration skills and change management with an ability to work successfully in a complex, global, matrix organization
  • Ability to oversee the creation of strategic, long-range plans that are aligned with strategies across the organization and to implement them successfully
