Today, from Boston/Cambridge and other offices around the world, Takeda s global vaccine business is applying innovation to tackle some of the world s most challenging infectious diseases, such as Dengue, Zika and Norovirus. Our team has an outstanding track record in vaccine development, manufacturing and global access to advance a pipeline of vaccines. We address some of the world s most pressing public health needs, including working with the Gates Foundation to eradicate Polio. Vaccines prevent more than two million deaths each year and have transformed global public health.

The summer intern will have the opportunity to conduct a vaccine development sub-project including but not limited to the following methods:

  • Virus characterization (titration using TCID50; antigenicity using reference panels; sequencing)
  • Characterizing the immune response to infection or vaccination (neutralization assays; ELISA; HAI; RVP assay)
  • Cell culture, Virus culture


  • Carry out practical laboratory-based experiments.
  • Under supervision the intern will develop, carry out and interpret a vaccine development project that adds to the understanding of a Takeda Vaccine candidate.
  • Keep an electronic lab notebook of all experiments and analysis.


  • Enthusiasm for vaccine development and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Rising senior in a Bachelor program; Master s students preferred.
  • Major or specialization should be Virology, Immunology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or similar.
  • Previous experience with cell culture, virus work, or work in a BSL2 laboratory is a plus.
