Job Description

Reporting to the Inflammation Portfolio Leader in the GI Drug Discovery Unit (DDU), this role will be responsible for developing and executing the research plan to support the Entyvio (Vedolizumab) project team in areas such as mechanistic understanding and new indication assessments.

The successful candidate will have a deep background in mucosal immunology research coupled with strong communication skills, preferably derived from experience of working at the research / clinical research / medical affairs interface.

The Entyvio Research Science Leader will report into the GI DDU and will be the Discovery team s representative on the Global Project Team (GPT) for Entyvio with accountability for conceiving of and executing on research projects via internal teams and external partnerships and for the development of publication plans around the resulting data.

As Entyvio is the leading Takeda brand this will be a highly visible role serving several key stakeholders including the Entyvio GPL (Global Program Leader) Global Medical Affairs (GMA) and the GI Therapeutic Area Leadership team (GILT), in addition to the home base in the GI Drug Discovery Unit.

POSITION OBJECTIVES:

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Discovery, Clinical, Medical Affairs) and external researcher experts to further develop the research plan to support mechanistic understanding of Entyvio.

  • Leverage the insights of the GI DDU and network partners to develop new experimental approaches and plans to deepen the understanding of IBD pathology and the role of Entyvio in its treatment

  • Gain endorsement from Entyvio GPT for these approaches and agree timelines & budget to deliver the plan.

  • Identify resources (internal to Takeda, and from external academic or CRO providers) to execute the plan.

  • Investigate where research data may inform new translational approaches for Entyvio

  • Build a mechanistic knowledge base of all the current and future products in the IBD landscape

  • Act as the leader of the Vedolizumab Research Plan and contribute to the Entyvio GPT as DDU representative, including supporting important sub-teams such as the Medical Affairs Entyvio team.

  • Participate in congresses and advisory boards with the Entyvio team globally to share learnings from the new research and to educate internal Takeda Medical Affairs staff and external collaborators.

  • Work with the Entyvio publications team to deliver high quality manuscripts based on the research data.

  • Build a close collaborative link across all GI groups (Clinical, GMA, Translational teams) so that GI DDU is participating, listening and contributing to all of the functions working to support Entyvio.

  • Work closely with Entyvio GPT project members to ensure all global teams are informed and aware of the research work

  • Energetically engage with the entire DDU team to participate in and be supportive of the group s overall performance goals.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Set the research project objectives for Entyvio and ensure a high quality/innovative tactical plan is agreed with GPT and GI leadership.

  • Ensures Research plan is executed effectively by securing appropriate resources and budget.

  • Prepare high quality communications including manuscripts for publication and level-appropriate materials to enable understanding of complex science by non-scientific audiences.

  • Accountable for project delivery to time, quality and cost. Ensure adherence to reporting & publishing requirements for these projects.

  • Responsible for maintaining high effective and focused relationships with key Takeda functions and all external partners and advisors in collaboration with Entyvio Team.

  • Act as a communication hub and research expert for global teams benefiting from the insights gained from the research work plan.

  • Ensure good cross-functionally liaisons and understanding of the research.

  • Maintain a high scientific knowledge base of external IBD environment especially around the mechanisms of action of new & future products.

  • Support GPT sub-teams and their meetings and delivery requirements.

EDUCATION, BEHVIOURAL, COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Has at least 5+ years industry experience in an R&D function with a focus on mucosal immunology

  • Preferably has worked in or closely with a medical affairs like function, with track record of excellent communication and leadership skills.

  • Shows cross-cultural understanding of the needs and requirements of global program teams from R&D to commercial, including membership of global project teams for commercialized products.

  • Has competence to co-ordinate multiple inputs from scientific and medical experts to build structured approach to research plans

  • Natural excellence in written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Has experience of working through virtual and/or matrix team models in a global organization.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Cambridge MA office based role

  • Will participate in global teams such as Entyvio GPT.

  • Use of video/webex from home out of hours occasionally to link with global team for project meetings in differing timezones.

  • Up to 40% global travel may be required (congresses/research partners/academic collaborators)
