As a Cheminformaticianworking on the Discovery Toxicologyteam, you will be empowered to guide drug discovery projects towards superior drug designand apply data mining and cheminformatic tools, and a typical day will include:

  • Guide drug discovery projects towards superior drug design and candidate selection through the development of toxicological structure-activity relationships and application of Takeda s early safety screening strategy
  • Apply data mining and cheminformatic tools to collate, interrogate, interpret, and visualize complex, toxicological and ADME-related data
  • Derive mechanistic hypotheses towards resolving toxicological knowledge gaps and drive the development of novel in silico or in vitro technologies to improve the risk assessment process and reduce drug attrition


  • Apply Takeda s early safety screening paradigm to early drug discovery projects and identify safety liabilities within chemical series and lead candidates across the Takeda portfolio
  • Provide structure-based risk assessments and influence the direction of drug design into more productive chemical space
  • Create structure-based relational databases to aid in the interrogation, interpretation, and visualization of biological, pharmacokinetic and toxicological data
  • Design, develop and/or validate novel in silico and in vitro solutions that address high-value toxicological knowledge gaps within the safety screening paradigm
  • Work collaboratively on multi-disciplinary projects across multiple therapeutic areas, interacting with toxicology, medicinal chemistry and pharmacology colleagues.


  • A demonstrable and strong understanding of medicinal organic chemistry, pharmacokinetics and metabolism is essential
  • A PhD in synthetic organic chemistry is preferred although will consider a related discipline with appropriate drug discovery experience
  • Data mining experience and ability to interrogate, interpret, and visualize biological and toxicological data is essential
  • Experience and ability to work effectively in a matrix, global environment as part of a multidisciplinary team is essential
  • Experience in CNS-related drug discovery projects is desirable
  • Pre-clinical or clinical drug safety experience is desirable
  • Experience with cheminformatic tools is desirable, including for example Pipeline Pilot, Spotfire DXP, the use of scripting languages and the application of machine learning methodologies
  • Awareness of current developments in the ADME sciences and predictive toxicology is desirable
  • Strong, written, oral communication and influencing skills are essential
  • Self-starter with a high level of independence is essential
