US-MA, Senior Director, Oncology Partnerships 1603242-MZ



This position will be responsible for evaluating and providing oversight for external partnerships, in collaboration with Takeda s business development group, as a member of the oncology discovery leadership team.


  • Lead the oncology discovery effort to identify and evaluate external partnership opportunities, in close collaboration with the business development group.
  • Work closely with other members of the oncology discovery leadership team to insure that Takeda maintains a world-class oncology discovery and early development pipeline.
  • Responsible for developing a strong network of partners that advances the research pipeline of Takeda through access to innovative targets, modalities, technologies, platforms, clinical samples, and disease models.
  • Responsible for defining the goals, deliverables and working relationships needed for key external collaborations. Will work closely with Legal, Business Development, IP, Strategic Outsourcing, and other stakeholders.
  • Liaise cross-functionally (Legal, Finance, Sourcing, HR, and across all scientific functions as necessary) to insure successful collaborations: proactively identify and resolve issues limiting scientific execution.
  • Builds relationships & collaborates with scientific leaders, KOLs, academic partners and biotech companies, and is seen as a subject matter expert in Oncology research and therapeutic
  • Maintains an up-to-date awareness of the current landscape and trends in oncology research, technology and clincal practices, and is familiar with current regulatory (FDA, EMA, etc.) requirements and trends.



  • 8+ years experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry and an advanced degree in health or life sciences (e.g., Ph.D., M.D.) with a demonstrable deep understanding of oncology biology and drug discovery & development practices
  • Experience in identifying, establishing and leading external partnerships
  • Established track record in driving innovative oncology research.
  • Demonstrated ability to build a strong network of interactions across the biotechnology and academic research community.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of drug discovery and translational research, through to early clinical research (Proof of Concept)
  • Strong leadership skills, with proven ability to lead matrixed teams comprised of internal and external scientific collaborators.
  • Experience with a diversity of therapeutic modalities (small molecule, biologics, etc.) is highly desirable.
