The purpose of Research Technician in Obesity Research will be to provide hands-on and technical support within the In Vivo Pharmacology & Safety group at NNRC. This role contributes to the department’s goals by providing technical support to pharmacology studies critical to discovery efforts in the Obesity Research Unit.
Reports to Obesity Research Management and interacts with In Vivo Pharmacology & Safety Group on daily basis to accomplish goals and objectives. Internal relationships are with the NNRC vivarium staff, other In Vivo Pharmacology & Safety colleagues, scientific project teams, and other staff at NNRC. This role has no direct or indirect reports.
Key areas of accountability include the support metabolic phenotyping and exploratory safety studies at NNRC. Day to day activities include cooperating with other In Vivo Pharmacology & Safety staff to plan, schedule, and execute metabolic phenotyping experiments. This includes, but is not limited to, tracking animal weights, measuring food consumption, dosing animals with test compounds, collecting blood or other specimens, and assisting with or performing tasks such as body composition assessments, energy expenditure assessments and food intake studies, and associated data collection, organization and summarization.
* Must be able to lift 10 lbs. above shoulder height while standing
* Overnight travel up to approximately 5%
* Weekend work required
* A BS or Associate Degree with minimum 0-1 year relevant experience or equivalent
* Ability to accurately maintain laboratory notebooks
* Ability to read and follow SOPs
* Ability to work occasional weekends and holidays
* Computer proficiency, database management, and the ability to learn new software programs
* Experience working with laboratory rodents
* Experience working with animal blood, tissues and/or cells
* Proper handling of biohazard material
* Ability to work occasional holidays
