Job Description Purpose
The Senior Director, Market Development and Promotional Education (Diabetes Portfolio) will support short and long term market development strategies for Diabetes indications. This individual will lead the efforts in developing and implementing tactics for promotional medical education and unbranded disease state efforts in support of overall commercial strategy. This individual is accountable for developing and maintaining customer engagement plans for existing and new indications. This position makes major decisions for key areas of responsibility including Key Opinion Leader (KOL) mapping, influence, and advocacy (branded/promotional programs), supporting non promotional content (publication strategies), advisory boards, aligning with Educator Program (EP), National Programs (speaker bureau strategy and programs, NDEI, PriMed) and Interface programs with the Vice President's (VP) endorsement. Participates in Marketing governance bodies to ensure the Market Development strategy is aligned with the overall Diabetes strategy.

Has leadership responsibility for a team of direct reports. Participates with the Diabetes Marketing Leadership Team in shaping strategy, structure and culture. Reports to the Vice President, Diabetes Portfolio Marketing. Key internal relationships include brand leads, senior level positions in Medical Affairs, Clinical Medical Regulatory (CMR), Diabetes Sales, Marketing, Legal, Regulatory, Business Development (pipeline/prelaunch drugs) and Global Marketing/Medical. Other key external relationships include national and international key opinion and thought leaders and professional services vendors.

Essential Functions
Establishes the scientific platform including target product claims and prioritized messaging identifying data gaps for scientific exchange, publications planning and real world data generation. Responsible for the translation of scientific data into compelling, promotional medical education. Drives strategic positioning and competitive assessment aligned with commercial lead. Responsible for the identification and mapping of KOLs for both Diabetes and NASH. Develops and oversees customer engagement activity at key congresses, advisory boards and speaker programs. Develops core curriculum for all promotional slide decks and leads all speaker training initiatives. Responsible for working across the Diabetes portfolio to align strategies and optimize portfolio. Maximizes revenue and profitability and understands return on investment (ROI) concepts to ensure program effectiveness. Partners with Brand teams to identify key metrics and evaluate ROI/impact of programs. Collaborates with brand teams in making course corrections if needed. Partners with Marketing Effectiveness Leadership to develop and oversee implementation of key metrics (ROI, impact, etc). Regularly reviews current program progress to ensure profitability/budget goals are on track. If not meeting metrics, proactively implements corrective measures to increase business impact and overall value. Responsible for the development and execution of speaker training. Leads the development of cardiology, endocrinology, primary care, and other appropriate customer relationships. Demonstrates strong leadership across the organization, by effectively promoting and engaging in close collaboration with key internal stakeholders (eg Sales, Medical, Legal, other Marketing teams). Develops and oversees the implementation of strategic business plans for Diabetes Portfolio Market Development. Viewed as a functional expert in this field by internal and external stakeholders. Ensures strategies and tactics are aligned with brands and based on the overall brand/portfolio strategy. Develops and presents Market Development compelling plans for management endorsement. Develops strong relationships with leading key opinion leaders/thought leaders to integrate into market activities. Develops strong relationships/partners with the Medical Affairs unit within CMR to ensure KOL/Healthcare Professional (HCP) relationships are leveraged and aligned with an overall KOL Relationship Management Strategy. Forges strong relationships with International Marketing to maximize Diabetes Portfolio Market Development activities. Identifies opportunities to coordinate programs across multiple brands/portfolio to ensure scalability, cost savings and alignment. Leads the development and execution of Diabetes Portfolio Market Development plan/strategy for products considering product lifecycle (new indication, formulation changes, etc.). Leads the Extended Market Development Team as part of the Diabetes Governance Structure, and ensures outputs are fed into other governance bodies. Liaises closely with Pipeline Product teams to ensure full alignment of Market Development activities for pipeline and pre-registration drugs with marketed brands, and identify areas of synergy. Oversees integration of promotional medical education into Novo Nordisk’s business planning process. Oversees development of the strategic publication plan (for all brands) in collaboration with Medical, to drive key brand messages, maximizing reach and impact. Proactively communicates with Brands to ensure message alignment and "sign off’ prior to implementation. Provides leadership oversight in ensuring the effective alignment of Market Development tactics across the brands and customer segments (e.g. Endos, PCPs, KOLs, Payers, Patient Marketing) to impact and influence prescribing behaviors. Represents Novo Nordisk at international meetings, where applicable. Responsible for effectively managing the Diabetes Portfolio Market Development budget within targets. Develops and monitors performance against department’s budgets. Ensures budgets remain on track. Establishes, oversees implementation and monitors adherence to administrative policies and procedures. Evaluates appropriate use of resources to ensure attainment of unit, department and company profitability goals. Reviews and audits staff expense reports.

Physical Requirements
20-30% overnight travel required.

Development of People
Supervisory: Ensures that reporting personnel have 3P forms with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensures that the Individual Development Plan (IDP) forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manages the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and the Novo Nordisk Way.

Additional Information Qualifications
* A Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years’ experience, including 10+ years progressive Product Management/Marketing, Market Development, or Medical Education experience within the pharmaceutical industry required. Masters or graduate degree preferred with 10+ years’ experience.
* Prior team leadership and/or management experience required.
* Demonstrated collaboration skills in leading cross-functional teams required.
* Excellent presentation/communications skills required.
* Proven track record of innovative Market Development accomplishments/high impact results (based on metrics/ROI).
* Solid understanding of the marketplace and competition, preferably within Diabetes. Strategic planning, execution and follow-through skills required.
* Existing relationships with Key Opinion Leaders across Endocrinology, Cardiology and Primary Care focused on treatment of Type 2 Diabetes preferred.
* Strong budget management and analytic skills required.
* Experience in Diabetes or Cardiovascular preferred.
* Product launch experience with first in class medicine or new therapeutic area is preferred. Experience and knowledge of life cycle development including regulatory and development considerations preferred.
* Demonstrated ability to develop multichannel promotional medical education plan and tactical execution.
