Job Description PURPOSE:
Supports Public Policy team through policy and reimbursement knowledge, and the translation of that knowledge in presentations and memos that will be used internally and externally. Responsible for developing and disseminating all Public Affairs formal internal communications. With support of Associate Director of Public Policy, develops materials for use with ET members participating on PhRMA, BIO and HLC. Supports work of Changing Diabetes team, particularly the Diabetes Advocacy Alliance and Cities Changing Diabetes.

Will work closely with all members of Novo Nordisk’s public policy and reimbursement team. Will interact with trade associations, including PhRMA, BIO and HLC, and with members of the Diabetes Advocacy Alliance. Reports directly to the Senior Director, Public Policy. This position will also work in a highly collaborative fashion with various internal departments across Novo Nordisk, including State and Federal Government Affairs, Marketing, Legal, Clinical, Medical and Regulatory Affairs.

With oversight, drafts letters to the Administration and federal agencies with respect to Medicare, Medicaid, Quality/CER, and other government program regulations within scope of authority. With oversight, drafts memos, educational materials, and presentations detailing the impact of federal and state policy decisions on the company’s business, as well as Public Affairs’ strategy to protect the company and its stakeholders. Responsible for monitoring aspects of policy changes proposed by Federal agencies to ensure that the relevant internal departments are aware of issues and that Novo Nordisk subsequently responds effectively.
Responsible for developing and disseminating all Public Affairs formal internal communications, including Public Affairs policy newsletters (biweekly, quarterly). With support of Associate Director of Public Policy, develops materials for use with ET members participating on PhRMA, BIO and HLC. Will support the work of NNI’s signature advocacy coalition, the Diabetes Advocacy Alliance. Assists the Director, Changing Diabetes Policy, as needed with development of stakeholder engagement tools and activities for “Cities Changing Diabetes”. Required knowledge of a variety of issues will be necessary, and may include but are not limited to Quality/CER and ACA repeal/replace.

Approximately 10% overnight travel, including to NNI’s Princeton office in NJ

* Bachelor’s degree rom an accredited institution is required; master’s degree (MPH, MPP, MBA) preferred
* Ability to analyze and respond to policy developments, as well as communicate implications in a straightforward manner to internal and external stakeholders
* Ability to effectively deliver information, and explain, advocate and negotiate positions and issues to a broad spectrum of individuals
* Ability to work under tight deadlines, with little supervision required
* Exceptional oral, written, interpersonal and presentation skills; displays stature, gravitas, and confidence to gain respect as a leader both within and outside the organization
* In depth understanding of the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, health care reform implementation, and health policy
* Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in federal legislative or public policy making activities required
