This position can be based anywhere that has access to an airport that is considered a major hub. The bulk of customers are around New York City, Boston, Washington DC but other major cities include Miami and Atlanta, and Nashville.
The Manager Academic Development role is responsible for leading a group of 6 Academic Account Managers who are responsible for building business/professional relationships within major teaching hospitals and academic centers. The Manager Academic Development will coach Academic Account Managers with processes, tactical execution and account obstacles as necessary. The Manager Academic Development facilitates training on new tactics as well as ensures compliance execution, communication and coordination of activities across the team. The role will lead Academic Account Managers in achieving their business objectives within the assigned areas and will assist in the formulation of the business plans.
Builds and executes business plans to maximize current and future sales opportunities by building business/professional relationships within major teaching hospitals and academic centers. Collaborate with Director, Academic Development to oversee interactions and performance optimization with all internal and external stakeholders. Direct the sales function of six Academic Account Managers by focusing on the U.S. Pharma s non-retail sectors.
Provides leadership, management and coaching to six Academic Account Manager sales personnel to achieve strategic and tactical objectives
Partner with fellow Managers of Academic Development and Director of Academic development to plan, organize & conduct sales meetings with Academic Account Managers to drive growth and maintain/advance technical competency in academic channel
Collaborate with fellow Managers of Academic Development and Director of Academic Development to design & execute training programs for Academic Account Managers
Conduct professional presentations for internal cross-functional areas / academic institutions / academic associations
Oversee the execution Academic Development programs and fellow / resident / student handoff between Academia and field sales
Partner with fellow Managers of Academic Development and Director Academic Development to help oversee the coordination of fellow/resident/student handoffs with field sales
Work collaboratively with cross-franchise counterparts
Reinforce compliance requirements and provide appropriate coaching to the six Academic Account Managers

Four year BA / BS Degree (MBA preferred)
Excellent knowledge of English and proficient in Site local language.
Minimum 5 years industry leadership experience
Proven leader that stresses performance, accountability, teamwork, integrity and results orientation.
Well respected within the eye care community
Ability to assess marketplace trends and opportunities and develop solutions to problems of unusual complexity (requires a high degree of ingenuity)
Strong track record of collaboration with cross-franchise counterparts
Ability to influence across internal and external customer matrix by influencing without authority
Experienced & highly credible professional speaker
Demonstrates strong interpersonal skill set, goal-oriented and entrepreneurial spirit
Superior knowledge level regarding ocular pharmaceutical products and academia marketplace
