Novartis is recruiting for an Area Business Leader. The territory will cover Boston MA.
This is a universal job description meant to capture some of the
primary duties of this role that are common across functions or
divisions. It is not intended to represent all of the specific
responsibilities of your position. The Area Sales is responsible for
managing and developing a group of +/- eight Asthma Disease
Specialists dedicated to meeting and exceeding sales objectives and to
make Novartis the preferred partner in the Allergy and Pulmonology
medical community. This includes implementation of national and
regional strategies for the promoted product line. Customers include
office-based physicians; hospital based respiratory physicians,
specialty distributors, consultant pharmacists, medical directors, key
medical and nursing personnel among others.
The incumbent will be responsible for the hiring, training and
development of sales consultants, performance evaluation and
compensation, and efficient and effective account targeting and
coverage, strong analytical skills are required to effectively use
personal and promotional resources in order to maximize sales and
market share. ASM s will have heavy field coaching responsibilities
and at times partner with representatives to close the sale.
This position will require a strong ability to work cross-functionally
with Genentech mirror business units and Regional Account Manager, mass-market customer business units, Regional Account Managers, and
the therapeutic business units. Development of relationships and
maintaining an active presence in the respiratory care community and
associated organizations are essential elements of this position.
Incumbents will need to fully understand the Respiratory marketplace,
develop actionable business plans for their geography, participate in
the formulation of national strategy and programs and implement
national and area strategy. This position will require extensive
travel schedule due to the large geography that incumbents will be
responsible for. Candidates need to be motivated, have a high degree
of technical expertise, exceptional selling skills and familiarity
with the Respiratory and Pediatric community and be willing and able
to accept a high degree of autonomy. This will require exceptional
skills in the areas of communication, organization, planning and

Education:Undergraduate degree required, preferably in Life Sciences, Pharmacy or
Business related discipline; MBA preferred
Experience:5-10 years of combined pharmaceutical sales experience, preferably in mass market and institutional or specialty sector in a pharmaceutical
environment such as as: 3 or more years of pharmaceutical sales experience and at least 2 years of pharmaceutical sales management experience
o Brand/product marketing experience and understanding of the marketing
processes; previous managed markets experience; thorough knowledge of
the integrated healthcare system
o Business analysis; financial management; strategic planning
